MEDTEC (medicine)
SubjectMedicine, Bioinformatics
MEDTEC is a joint project of the Humanitas University and the Politecnico di Milano. It is a 6-year degree in medicine and surgery that incorporates an innovative approach to doctor-patient interaction that maximises the potential of technologies and intelligent systems for the customisation of therapies and continuity of care. This future-facing combination is designed for tomorrow’s leaders in healthcare practice and research.
This qualification allows graduates to work as doctors in general practice but is designed specifically for those with an interest in biomedical engineering.
Humanitas University and Politecnico di Milano adopt an educational approach that promotes interactive methodologies; these include research-based learning, problem-based learning, problem solving, case methods and skill-based portfolios to guarantee a solid integration between theoretical concepts acquired during teaching activities and practical training sessions, as well as the promotion of critical thinking. Classes aim to encourage student engagement and interaction, with a strong focus on group work through data collection, data management and follow-up discussions with the teaching staff, as in the case of the flipped classroom approach.
In the first three years the degree will be taught partly at Politecnico di Milano and at Humanitas University. From the fourth year, once students enter the clinical phase of their studies, students will be based full-time at the Humanitas campus, its state of the art simulation centre and teaching hospital.
The degree is launched for the first time in September 2019 and there are 50 places available inevery year group. Applications for 2021 will open very soon and the entrance exam for EU nationals will take place in March 2021. This test can be taken online unless you live in Italy.
Students can apply with 3 A levels in science-related subjects. Grades are not necessarily the most important filter. Students are selected entirely based on their performance in the IMAT entrance exam. However, this unique programme is clearly academically challenging.
