"I wanted to study international business and in order to get the most out of the course you simply have to do it in a different country. Communicating on a daily basis to people from various countries and cultures is essential."
Would you like to study in an international environment and work alongside students, faculty and partners from all over the world? Do you want to become an expert in global business and intercultural communication? Are you ambitious? Are you eager for new experiences? Then the International Business Bachelor's degree is right for you.
Programme introduction
The 4-year International Business programme consists of lectures and classes, but students also work together in small groups in order to find answers to challenging, yet practical, business-related problems. Group work prepares you for effective communication and cooperation in international business. You will also get training in 21st-century skills, such as intercultural sensitivity, communication, information management and innovative thinking. Moreover, in your third year, you will get a great opportunity to study at one of our partner universities and to complete a work placement at an international company or organisation.
At Hanze UAS, we take a "learning by doing" abroad. This, together with individual coaching, sets us apart from International Business programmes at research universities.
Course overview
"The learning environment is interesting, almost like being in a non-compulsory sixth form. Small classes with good contact hours, but they throw you into the study instantly and keep you busy. The University is very helpful and very efficient, but they make sure they don’t hold your hand through the course. They expect you to mature and become independent but provide help when needed."
The first year introduces you to international business basics and business skills.
In the second year, you will focus on the exploration, design and implementation of international business opportunities. You will analyse the market dynamics from a broad perspective and advise a real-life business on how to export their product/services to a foreign market.
During the third year, you can spend a full semester studying at one of our many partner universities around the world. This is a unique opportunity to expand your knowledge of different cultures and develop your language skills. Non-Dutch students can stay in The Netherlands and follow a minor at Hanze University of Applied Sciences.
The other semester you spend working in an internationally oriented company or organisation outside your home country, where you can apply what you have learned during your study.
You begin your fourth and final year with a semester in which you take classes relating to your graduation minor. The IB programme offers four minors: Marketing & Sales, Finance & Accounting, Strategy & Business Development and Management. In your final semester, you will complete a graduation project in which you are regarded as a consultant for an external company. You will obtain, define, analyse and research a business-related problem, write a final report and present/defend your findings in an oral presentation.
