Gain sought-after expertise from some of Europe's leading economists! A great demand exists for economists who can understand, analyse and forecast changes to the global economic landscape and their implications for the performance of organisations.

Tilburg University's three-year Bachelor of Science in Economics offers you this coveted area of expertise, as well as the prestige of having been taught by some of Europe's most respected economists.

On par with the best economics programmes in the world, the programme provides a solid grounding in microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, as well as specific knowledge in core fields including financial economics, international economics, public sector economics and development economics. Two courses in business economics and two in philosophy are also part of the degree, as well as a variety of electives during the last semester of the programme.

Why Economics ?

At the Economics programme, learning is not passive. It is interactive, creative, demanding, stimulating and challenging. It is rooted in theory, but always connected to what is going on in the real world, in the global economy.

You will learn by lectures, tutorials, case studies, group assignments, and classroom debates. Discussions are made that much more enlightening by the fact that your classmates come from all over the world.

A focus on group work prepares you for the reality of a working environment. In diverse teams, you work on assignments and prepare presentations, always applying what you have learnt to the task at hand, just as you will, during your career. Class sizes are kept small, so you will never be just another face at the back of the lecture hall.

The programme is divided in a two-year foundation phase consisting of twenty mandatory courses, and a one-year specialisation phase organised around a variety of free electives and programme electives. Assessment schemes take into account written exam results as well as your performance and participation in class.

Career Perspectives

A certain reputation goes with being a Tilburg University graduate. Your degree is an indicator of the best European education - a guarantee of everything from in-the depth knowledge to well-developed intercultural and communication skills. You can be sure of excellent career prospects and a competitive edge in the labour market.

Graduates of Economics at Tilburg pursue successful careers in the private, public, and non-profit sectors as well as in research institutes. Our economics graduates have a competitive edge for jobs with an international dimension, as well as jobs in the financial sector and where micro-economics is applied to competition policy in an increasingly deregulated environment.
